Michelangelo created this sculpture (1513-16) for the Tomb of Julius II in S. Pietro in Vincoli, Rome. It is the centerpiece of an unfinished masterpiece which he worked on intermittently for forty years. Made from bonded white carrara marble, marble base, imported from Italy.
